Hi

I have recently replaced an old porch light with a a Cameo Lutec 10w led light. The previous light had a simple on/off switch in the hallway but the new one has a timer and sensor. I have wired the new unit according to the instructions but it doesn't come on except very briefly when I switch the mains power back on. I've attached a picture of the instructions and the wiring.

(The 3 wires going into the left of the connector are the mains, the 4 on the right are for the unit.)

Any advice greatly appreciated, and yes the on off switch in the hallway is in the on position

Many thanks

Trevor

It appears that you have connected the incoming earth conductor to the centre terminal of the connector block ,but the instructions indicate "X" ( no connection to middle terminal )The earth terminal is to the left side of the base plate ???

The diagram shows no wire in the middle terminal. You've put the earth wire in there, instead of on the tag on the left marked with the earth symbol.

Is the MCB tripping?

edit: pipped to the post!

Yes that’s correct the earth is the one to the left in the middle. So if that one shouldn’t be connected to the centre block, do I just leave it out altogether?

No ,it goes on the earth terminal on the left / bottom side of the white mounting backplate.

Ok so now this is hopefully correctly wired but still nothing is happening. I’ve tried adjusting the luminosity and timer settings but still nothing, whether it won’t come on at all until it’s dark I don’t know. Any other thoughts? Should I try getting a replacement unit?

Thanks for all the help!

Just noticed this

but it doesn't come on except very briefly when I switch the mains power back on.

Did the MCB ( fuse ) for the light trip when you switched the power back on and the lamp lit briefly ?

If the Switched Live connected is to an effective Earth then the lamp should not have lit and the MCB should have tripped. If the lamp did light briefly then the Earth connection to the lamp may not be an effective Earth. That could be a safety issue.

Nothing appeared to trip when the light came on briefly. Now it is re-wired with the earth on the correct point nothing comes on even briefly. Could I have damaged the unit by wiring it incorrectly perhaps?

Update, I fitted the replacement unit, wired correctly this time, and it works perfectly.

Moral of the story - read the instructions properly next time.
