Hi,

I'm just wondering if there is any way to fix the valve so that it turns the radiator fully off. It seems that its maybe one setting too far to the heating setting so when its shown as 'off' its actually on 1.

I need to take the radiator off to decorate behind it before putting the new towel radiator in.

The time honoured method is to use a ‘decorators cap’ which replaces the TRV head....
This ensures the pip which stands up is fully depressed, turning off the water fully.
I have on occasion used a small coin below the head to achieve the same effect.
John :)

Thanks for your reply!
Just watched a quick video on this. So basically remove TRV, place cap on the pin, fully unwind TRV then put it back on?

Yep, that’s the theory!
More often than not, the TRV comes with a decorators cap when new.

I think they probably just forgot to put it on when installing (its old stuff) since none of the other radiators do it and looking at some mistral instructions it does mention a decorators cap.

I don't mean to be a pain but do you know where i can pick one up? Google just shows the white caps that you use to turn the feed on/off.

On mine (Drayton), I have in the past removed the TRV head, untwisted the nut/pin that operates the valve by a set number of turns, refitted it and switched off then when all done, screw the nut back to its original position.

I remember the first time I took a rad off the wall. It was fine all day, chilly night, and I came down to a flood in the morning.

Funnily enough before taking off the TRV I used the 5p trick so i could actually close the feed to the radiator. Anyway when i was loosening the nut on the side with the TRV i knocked the TRV and it popped off and water went everywhere, i've put it back on now and I hope it will be ok through the night.

I went to pick up a blank cap from screwfix and missed them by 5minutes :(
