Not sure if this is the best sub forum, but I need/want to kit out a small house that I have purchased as a holiday home. I want to provide reasonable fire protection as I plan to airbnb it occasionally and also allow friends to use, so was going for.
smoke, fire and carbon monoxide detector top of landing and hallway
Fire blanket in the kitchen
fire extinguisher in the kitchen (size, type?)
standard first aid kit
any recommendations?
As an ex fireman I would say you have got it about right.
You will need a Carbon Monoxide detector placed wherever there is an open fire gas/solid fuel situation . ie central heating boiler , kitchen ( gas Cooker) Lounge ( open Fire) Also have these systems checked out and certificated
Smoke detectors obvious, if possible wired into electrics, if not, battery type but change batteries at least twice a year, check batteries each time of re letting if possible, it is not unknown that people remove smoke detector batteries and use them for toys and portable items .
Some type of emergency lighting placed on landing and hallway, Torches will also be useful, plug in socket Torches/emergency lighting type rechargeable ( these come on when power fails) cheap enough from Lidl , placed in other rooms.
CO2 extinguisher, placed near main exit door, ( idea being person is near exit if the fire is out of control ) 2 Kg minimum, Larger extinguishers can be a bit heavy for some people .
Powder extinguishers are messy , and operator cannot see what they are doing , Water extinguisher dangerous if Electrics are involved.
Also how would the occupier call the emergency services ? people tend to rely on mobile phones these days, if the property is rural there may not be an available signal so the property may need a hard wired telephone .
