Good day all,

Getting the kitchen replaced shortly and moving the dishwasher to stand on it's own on the other side of the kitchen. Got a 40mm waste spurred off of the WC basin next door and a 15mm cold feed with stop valve.

Now, does the dishwasher need a P trap or can it be connected directly in to an appliance connector on a straight vertical pipe?

Thanks in advance

Traps are installed so smells don’t enter the building.

Needs to drain into a trapped standpipe. You also need to check the basin waste size, a dishwasher needs a minimum 40mm waste pipe, basins usually use 32mm. Reducing the dishwasher discharge pipework will be a recipe for disaster sooner or later.
