Hi,

I'm trying to install an Insinkerator food waste disposer, the instructions were quite clear, but I found out a few unexpected issues that would be great to see if you know the best way to sort it out.

1st issue: The connection to the waste pipe is in a different position (and height) than the one needed to connect the disposer.

I was planning to purchase a flexible pipe to connect them, is this a good idea?

2nd issue: The disposer is not planned to work with the sink overflow so I need to find a way to send the overflow to the waste pipe.

Here, I'm not sure what to do. I could have another flexible pipe from it, but not sure where to connect it, also, not sure if there would be space for it there since the disposer is much bigger than the current drain and may block the current overflow pipe. Any ideas?

Many thanks!

As Andy has said, waste disposer should be fitted to the smaller bowl. Flexi waste is awful stuff, use rigid pipework.

Personally, I'd ditch the current setup, fit an appliance trap on the main bowl, fit your Insinkerator on the half bowl and run the 2 wastes as required to join the existing pipework. Note the discharge hose from the dishwasher/washing machine needs to rise, before dropping down to the outlet, to prevent dirty water running back into the machine. Especially if you're putting a waste disposer on the same drainage.

Thanks everyone, it makes sense, I didn't think about fitting it to the smaller bowl. The only issue is that I'm not sure if there's space enough to fit the disposer there, but I'll check again

If it doesn't then I think you need to go back to the drawing board, or you're going to open yourself up to a whole world of pain, trying to lash up what's already there to what you want to fit.
