I plan to lay 68msq of Overland Silver Porcelain 20mm and 900x450. Plan to use a brick bond effect when laying. I have prepared the sub base and got all my drainage sorted. My garden is on two levels with steps up to the top level.
Ive done quite a lot of research regarding porcelain laying but just want to make sure I've got everything covered. So far I have learned
1. Application of SBR primer to adhere to mortar

2. Cut with a continuous good quality diamond blade. Although I only have a 110 mm grinder, will this be adequate?

3. I plan to have 5mm grout lines so will need to be spot on with levels so any advice with regards to that appreciated.

4. Keep SBR off the face of the tile and clean off immediately.

Any other advice or pitfalls to avoid would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

would think you will struggle to cut a good straight edge with a 4 inch grinder.

I laid a load in my back garden the other year. Sounds like you have most of it sorted.
For the primer I mixed the sbr with cement till nice and green and not tooo viscous. But it does stick like mad, so as u say clean the tops asap. Although I found with mine I could use wire wool to get off any stuck residue with no effect to the tile.

I laid mine on a 100% wet mix bed about 40mm deep. If I was to do it again I'd get a concrete base poured to the right level then tile adhesive it to the slab.
I found u got though loads of mortar, it took forever always mixing and it was hard to keep the levels.
But I'm only an diyer and no expert.
I used. 5" angle grinder with a similar disc and it wasn't too bad.
Tip, lay the tile on an old pallet to use as a cutting bed. The tile needs to be evenly supported when cutting it it can snap.
Or fix it in place and cut it to size once it's stuck! That way you can trim the entire run in one go to get a nice straight finish.

Thanks for the reply Mike.
I’m also a DIYer and I know what you mean about the mortar usage. You said you used a 5 inch grinder to do the cuts? Was there any splintering along the cut? I’m looking at leaving the all my cuts till the end and the possibly hiring a water fed table saw but they are expensive to hire

Did you use a continuous diamond blade?
Also, what was the thickness of tile you laid?

Cheers. Thanks for the info. Did the blade last for all the cuts?

Yes. It did loads. Probs not cutting as good, but it's hard to tell now as I don't have a new blade to compare against!
