Hi everyone

Whats this old push fit fitting and how do I dismantle it?

I want to replace the tee with an elbow as one leg of each is now not required.

OH dear you have Osma gold fittings, they need a special de-mounting tool, they are expensive and absolutely crap fittings, you will constantly chase leaks, cut the lot out and replace with something more reliable

Yes, but reuse the inserts from the pipes you are removing. Best to use the correct ones for the pipe.

Just thinking if i cut close to the tee, il cut thro the insert at the same time.

Surely its just 15mm pipe so the hep2o inserts would work?

It isn't hep2o pipe though is it, outside diameters tend to be the same but not the inside. You can use whatever fittings and inserts you like but you did ask for advice.

I do appreciate the advice. Ive only used copper before so was just after further clarification.

The pipe has 'plumbsure' written on the side.

Are you saying that the inserts need to be pipe specific and that hep2o inserts might not fit?

Ripping the whole plumbing of the house out is not an option.

If the internal diameter is different between different makes of pipe, using the wrong insert could lead to a loose fitting and potential failure later.

Ok thanks.

The whole house is piped in this stuff. CH (which I am referring to) and drinking water, baths, showers, the lot.

Having previously only worked with copper before, what would you do if you had to add to work on the existing system? Presumably if I asked a plumber to add a radiator for example, they wouldn't match the existing exactly as its no longer available.... they'd have to tee in with something else.

I have always found that Hep2O with metal inserts are fine , but do not keep those Osma Gold fittings, you will chase leaks all over your house they are absolutely dire

Do they not release by simply pressing that plastic collar in, evenly all the way around and easing the fitting a little more onto the pipe?

Could the OP not simply check the OD of the pipe with a vernier, to match it with a soldering fitting?

nope the collar has small indendts in it and you use a tool that grips the collar and you unscrew it, they are horrible fittings

They use a “M” ring rather than an “O” ring, once they have been depressurised / demounted then struggle to seal again.
You can buy a Demounting tool, bit like a circlip spanner, but better cutting it out and using either Hep2o or compression fittings is the way to go.
