door closer

Hello chaps, I'd like to get one of these door closer things you fix above the door which closes it when it would otherwise get left open (by some people!)

I don't know the jargon for these things. This is just for an internal domestic door, nothing to do with fire regs or all that.

I would guess I would like one where you can adjust the force closing the door, e.g. so small grandchildren can open it.

I think that some of them, if you open the door all the way, they let it stay there. E.g. if you are cleaning round it or whatever.

I'd be grateful for any advice please.

You can get door closers in a variety of models . Simplest just close the door and are adjustable for speed , others have a second speed setting for the latching action allowing the door to close quickly then slowing for final close to avoid slamming .
Then there are some which also offer hold open option ( which you mentioned ) the closer also needs to be matched to the door weight, so light domestic door needs far less power than a heavy large fire door.
Good supplier should be able to match your requirements to the correct closer .

Also, the door opens towards a wall. When the door is open to 90 degrees it is parallel to and about 6 centimetres from that wall.
So I'm not sure of the arcs the arms need to swing through - is there room for them?
