Somethings up with that circlip in the middle.....its deformed as if its come adrift and its allowing that alloy drive dog to float.
Any comments on that?

Hi Harry and John I've managed to relocate the circlip but it's still not cutting I wonder if I have got the discs in the wrong position the main blade is moving but the second blade is also moving in the same direction thus not making a cutting action does this make senseAttachments
Hmmm.
Looking at the photos once more, it would seem that only one blade has the 'con rod' end and therefore that is the one that moves....the other one needs to be fixed to the machine base and therefore stationary. Could you confirm this please?
If two blades have a con rod end we have to think again.....!
I have to say, if these machines take damage the casing is often full of filings and debris but there's no sign of that.

There are two blades with a con rod ? as per photo the drive turns the elongated holes on the end of the blades I think both blades move it's just working out how I think I'll fork out £50 for another cutter head John this is way beyond me but thanks for your help and Harrie's

Ok Mick but those two blades (con rods) are driven by the 'crankshaft ' which spins off centre, giving the reciprocal movement.
Those 'crankpins ', if you like, should be opposed to eachother so one blade moves forward and the other back. Unless those crankpins have broken apart by spot weld failure I just can't see what's wrong! A real mystery!

whats in/on the drive, motor side?
Check out the first picture guys......the connecting rod seems to spinning in air with no crankpin

That con rod seems to be captive within those two plates yet I would have expected it to be driven by a crank pin on the other side....I just can't see what's driving it!

Could the pins arrowed be drive pins that are sheared off the drive dog?

You may have a point there....looking at Mick's first pic again there seems to be some filings or whatever around.
I can't see any reason for those pegs to be recessed as the boss is spot welded - you would think they would just drop out if that was the case.
Either way, spares don't seem to be available - just the blade cassette as a complete unit.
Maybe the machine came to an abrupt halt for things to shear - if indeed they have.

Good news John..... it's working.I stripped the blades right down and tried various ways of assembling them until I got the blades reciprocating correctly when I turned the drive. How long it will work for is another matter but at least it's working thanks to all you guys for your time and help DIYnot never fails

Could have been a thick branch John that jammed the blades and threw them out of sync. that's all I can think ofBrilliant Mick! Well done.
