Handyman used silicone instead of plaster (!?) fixing it...

I only noticed tonight, but to add to a long list of messed up stuff a handyman has done, he has filled several gaps in walls and ceilings with bathroom silicone.

I'm now trying to fix this before I can paint. He has silicone-d around light fittings amongst other things.

Some of the silicone is pretty flat, could I PVA it before plastering or do I need to scrape out the silicone first?

(I will be posting further about the rest of the issues, it's a complete nightmare )

No PVA it will make matters worse! Dig out the silicone and use decorators caulk (are you sure it is silicone not caulk?) or traditional filler.

Sorry didn't see your reply. Yes definitely silicone. He didn't take me up on the offer of buying materials, supportingly preferring to use what he had lying around.

Hence attaching my bath panel on with 6 inch masonry screws.

No, I had to take it off, a week after he left, the bathroom started smellinf terrible. The bath, which didn't leak before, now leaked really badly! He had used so much sealant on the bath panel I could hardly find the screws.
