So I'm finding I'm 'helping' the neighbours out more and more with the tasks (fixing leaky taps, odd bits of garden fences, new gates, errecting sheds - essentially DIY jobs) that the man (or woman) of the house doesn't want to do. Doing enough that I wondering about PLI. Should I have? Does any company provide a scheme for a 'professional' DIYer?

Are you charging them for the work?

The truth is that if you cause an accident or incident you MAY find yourself being held liable - regardless of any form of payment. But this applies to our entire lives. If you help someone trying to park a car, and give an erroneous indication, causing damage, it would be possible to be sued. If you lend a ladder that collapses, you may be held liable.

Household insurance policies probably cover these incidents, and would probably cover helping out with DIY tasks.

With regard to DIY PLI cover, it would probably be the same as professionals. On the one hand, you are doing less of it, but, by definition, you will not be trained. The Ins Co charge the same for a full time worker as they would for someone doing occasional paid jobs. I know this as I have asked, after going from SE to employed, but still doing legal private jobs

Suggest you have a look on line for "Master Tradesman Plus - Policy Schedule" issued by "Covea Insurance plc, Registered in England and Wales 613259"

I hold such an Insurance, never had to use it but "as cheap as chips" less than £ 30 for £ 1,000,000 cover?? there are provisos on the Insurance, such as no "Design work" Etc

Worth a look ???

Ken.

£30 per £1,000,000 will not cover any trade that uses a blowlamp. Years ago, certainly, plumbing. gas fitting and, possibly weirdly, decorators were the most expensive to get PLI for.

Anyway, the OP has buggered off.

As a fireman, are you allowed to say that?

Surely, instead of "awesome" you should be saying "tragic"?
