I need to plaster a small patch on the wall about a square foot.
Can I use some of the school PVA for paper and fabrics that I have available?

I’ve always wondered if it’s the same stuff. I wouldn’t risk it, but let us know if you do ;)

I wouldn't chance it, use a proper construction PVA made for that type of job.

I finally tried the school PVA. I first did a creamy mix with with plastering powder, liquid enough to go in the 1 mm gap between the plaster layer and the bricks around the edge of the patch. I then did two layers of plastering including some school PVA. it worked nicely.

PS: it seems OK for small patches, though for a big job might be better to use proper PVA...
