Booking a holiday, where to start?

The one and only all-in package holiday I went to was to the Dominic Rep, 2 weeks. Other than breakfast, there were no set meal times. Just ordered when wanted to, showing our room key. Very easy going and I thought they were all like that
Was a good holiday, £700 for the lot, including flights. Unfortunately Hurricane George arrived while we were there and it was a real arse getting home as the country was hit bad, poor buggers.

Went to Majorca in 1983 and was introduced to chips with mayo. Apparently a huge thing in the Netherlands!
Amsterdam is the place that showed chips and mayo to my young 17 year old self. Even nicer once been to one of those cafes, perfect for munchies!!!

So, father in law died on the 23rd July and was buried on the 9th August :(

Put a stop to holiday searching and when we looked again on the Monday all we could find was 12 days in Bulgaria at a resort called Elenite. First night tonight, it’s scruffy as **** but we all love it, all inclusive and right on the beach.

Full of Russians who like a drink so that’s good.

Didn’t seems to be any decent last minute deals so we paid £900pp for this just to get away.

On the plus side, family from Australia came over for the funeral and are joining us on Friday for 10 days.

Great. Hope you all have a cracking time. Don't look at those gorgeous women either.

We did a "compromise" a good few years ago. Took the Renault 19 on the ferry Newcastle to Bergen, up the Norwegian M1 including 2 ferry trips across gaps in the motorway and then a right turn into Finland for a week in a luxurious semi-detatched log cabin with private sauna near Yllas. Some distance north of the Artic circle it was possible to read a book at midnight by the light of the sun. Then back home via Sweden, across Norway spending a night in what had been the athlete's village at Lillehammer.

Far far better than the regimented package holidays.....
My type of trip...get off the beaten track

Sorry to hear about your dad in law Ian. Rotten stuff that.

Sorry to hear about your Father in Law Ian. Hope your wife is coping ok.

6k gets you a brand new yacht for two weeks cruising the Greek islands.

Turkey is cheap.

West coast of france is pretty reasonable and plenty of chalet options

If you are desperate I’ll lend you my house in Cowes (IoW). ;). I think it ticks your boxes. While you are there if you wouldn’t mind cleaning the blocked drain :D

I believe the OP said, "We are looking to go somewhere sunny for a couple of weeks in August"

Boxes not ticked :)
