Playing political games because he didn’t think of it. I agree it won’t work on some (probably most) kids but it might just make one kid think again, and lets face it we need to start somewhere.

Instead of just saying its a crap idea... He draws the attention away and starts race game again. We need to deal with knife crime.

A bunch of white upper and middle class men Laughing at the Chicken children. I didn't see David in there but maybe just maybe this is were he gets his chips.

We used hang outside the Chinese takeaway when we were kids. They called us the Chinese Children. A couple of our gang were from Thailand . They were known as the Siamese Chinese children.

Putting posters on takeaway packaging will not stop someone from buying a knife.
Knives, amongst a lot of other things are age restricted, so if someone is too young to buy one they will simply get one by other means.
People who can read know perfectly well it is illegal to carry a knife unless for a specific purpose such as part of your job. This means you must be on your way to or from your job to justify carrying it. If you are a chef you can't carry a carving knife if you are going shopping in Waitrose or Sainsbury's.

I think the best deterrent for anyone caught carrying a knife without a valid explanation is to take them to the autopsy of a knife crime victim. If they faint then wait until they wake up before continuing. If they carry a knife after that then lock them up for a long time.

But to be honest I think the only way to break gang rule is harsh sentencing with harsh conditions inside prisons. That's how the broke the gang mentality at the end of the 19th/beginning of 20th century. Prison life was very harsh in those days and being a member of a gang such as the High Rip or Cornermen could get you 7 years penal servitude without actually being proved guilty of a crime. Just being a member was justification in those days.

Posters on boxes won't solve anything except put money in the banks/pockets of the bosses doing the printing.

It was as he pointed out a pointless stunt.

Instead of tackling the causes they have instead opted for a cheap and frankly pathetic option so they can say at least they tried.

Prison are harsh in America and all it has done is created are prisoners who would rather enter into a gun fight with the Police than face going back into prison.

Tackling crime requires a multi faceted approach, harsher prisons won't do much.

Certainly a lack of police resourdes means crimes arent investigated: result is criminals dont frear being caught.

Harsher sentences though are not an effective deterrent. Prisons are 97% full, not much space for more.

UK prisons are rife with drugs, rehabilitation is poor, reoffending rates very high.

Around the world, low crime rates correlate to low levels of inequality.

I saw it on the Beeb news this morning and I just didn't get it, what did I fail to grasp, why are they playing the racial inequality card?

What was in the text printed on the boxes, which suggested it was racial?

Who brought race into it?

I can see nothing in the article that does that; only two MPs who have said it is doing that.
