Heeeelp!!! Central Heating works fine but NO hot water and the pressure gauge show high!

Hi guys/gals

I really need your help. It is now over 3 weeks I don't have hot water and I am having to boil water with the kettle for shower :(
Everything was working fine and all of a sadden everything shutdown and I reset the boiler now the boiler fires-up and I do get central heating but no hot water. I did bleed the rads and the pressure gauge shows over 3 PSI :( I did try to get it down between 1 and 2 but it soon raises up. What can I do?

You could start by giving more info ,boiler make and model for starters. By 3 psi ,I assume you mean 3 bar ! Is your filling loop integral to the boiler or removable. is filling loop fully closed off ? Is water being expelled from the PRV pipework ( copper pipe outside the property )
 
Make & model, stop playing around with it you're just causing more problems.
Why 3 weeks?
 
Really appreciate all your help guys, I thought I may find a way to resolve the issue hence why 3 weeks. Can't afford to pay call out but happy to pay per-job once I know if I can afford it. If that makes sense ;)

Terryplumb, Yes I meant 3 bar. refer to the pic please. I believe the filling loop is integral and it is closed now I did open it to lower the pressure and then closed it back. There was a very small dripping from PRV now there isn't anymore.

The red expansion vessel requires attention...worse case renewal. The safety valve that is now dripping may also require renewal.
Is that a 3 port valve behind the red vessel? The white box on the pipework...more pics please.
Looks like you've have an unvented cylinder, the white vessel will also need attention if further problems are not to be encountered.
As for the boiler...when was that last checked?
A few more pics of the cylinder would be good too.
You have to spend money sooner or later...a little bit of maintenance every so often is cheaper.
 
You need an engineer ,work on the system you have is not diy work. The EV is suspect and the issue that caused " everything to shut down" needs investigation . if you have used the PRV to release pressure / water out of the system ,it may need replacing as well. Can't see on your pic ,but does the cylinder have electric immersion heater fitted ? If so that would give you domestic hot water.
 
You are right I will have to get it looked at but today being Friday and the earliest I can get someone cheaper being on Monday as well as not getting paid till the end of the month I kinda am at your mercy.

GasGuru, I just checked the RED expansion vessel and there is very small water leak so I guess that needs replacing where as the white one is fine. What I don't understand is this being the case the central heating should have been the one to fail not the domestic heating.

If your boiler is firing up for central heating ( which it appears to ) but not for domestic hot water ,this could be due to a number of reasons ,faulty programmer ,three port valve stuck ,or its motor failed ,faulty cylinder stat or a wiring problem to name a few. The overpressure isn't really connected to you not getting domestic hot water ,that's a problem with the EV. Do yourself a favour and get an engineer in.
 
Like I said I shall do what you suggested but in the mean time I need to get it to work till my wage comes in. As for the programmer is new,three port valve not stuck , I am going to quickly check the cylinder stat and can not be wiring issue since it was working fine and I have checked there is no shorting any where. FYI, You really are helpping a lot cos you are guiding/trouble shooting the fault line.... I kinda know how to check it. So many thanks again

Looks like an immersion heater in one of those pics. Does it work? If so you can use that for hot water till you get the problem fixed.

Yes it looks like one to me ,just below the square box with dial on it ( CAEM COMBI ,is an immersion stat ). But does it work ???
