Russian Plane Lands in Field

Quality control in Russia is pretty p*** poor to say the least

Aeroflot pre flight checks generally amount to kicking the tyres

To be fair, no amount of pre flight checks are going to detect a flock of sea gulls intent on having their feathers trimmed by the turbine blades of a jet engine. A friend flew me from Caernarfon to another point in North wales, a 'Mooney' I believe it were, single prop, nice plane, just missed a couple of seagulls on take off, six feet to the left and it might well have been one less leave vote, aye, if it weren't for seagulls, we might have been staying in the EU on Oct 31st. It's a funny old world and no mistake.

Deffo wheels up, fuel tanks could/would be damaged from debris.
How much time from 'point of no return' to ground impact - As Browney (Blancolirio) would say - when in trouble 'Aviate, Navigate then Communicate' - Was it 750ft altitude - eventually powered by gravity - Approx' 3.7Nm from threshold, around 2 minutes !!

Hmm... this graphic is dubious !!

Memory stuff, no time for check lists - Real piloting, based upon experience and plenty time in the simulator plus a massive helping of luck.

Back in the 80s I made a few internal flights in Russia, chatting with some locals I expressed my concerns about Aeroflot, they reckoned most of the pilots were ex military and were used to landing on pitching aircraft carriers in blizzards, the aircraft were still pretty grim though

From 750 ft...no engines,more a case of trim,pick a spot,land.......Time over...Start with check lists is a death sentence.
