Recently fitted larger lintels for a friends new patio doors.

Turns out the joiner got the size of the doors wrong then told my friend the barely 70mm bearing either side would be fine.

Not only that he's went and cut the opening with a 9" grinder so it's barely sitting on half a brick.

Obviously will have to be put right with new lintels was wondering if he had any come back on this as it was done on the side with no contract

Scary what some people get up to.

Joiner ? I wouldn't let him join the Boy Scouts.

If its 70mm bearing, it should be OK; no point in disturbing the work to put longer lintels in.

There is still a contract if money changed hands. It does not need to be written and whether tax was paid or not is irrelevant.

But those bearings look like they will do. If anything, change the bearing bricks for blues if those commons are soft.

I'd get him to re-build the butchered jamb on the right. At least that would sneak a bit back. As the fellas have said, 150mm bearings is a (relatively) recent demand - prior to that 100mm bearing was plenty.

Who, the joiner? Out of 4x2? :cautious:

Wasn't so much the 70mm i was worried about it was the fact he butchered it with a 9" grinder then must've knocked it through with a mashy (y)

So there's not much of brick left at all maybe if he had cut it with a bigger blade it would be better

I was kinda hoping that the sill height was deliberately high in anticipation of a floor level increase...?

The door was completely wrong size from the drawings my pal came home and that's what he was left with.

Bit of a mess even without taking the lintels into consideration.
