Our dishwasher has completely died and we need a replacement. The problem is our kitchen is very old and the counters are lower than is standard now. So we only have a hole 81cm tall, possibly 81.5 at a pinch, for the dishwasher. We can’t cut out a section of worktop as that’s the draining board. I was looking at a Bush dishwasher today that would fit IF we can take the top off. Is that safe to do? Are tHere any makes designed to have their tops removed, or are much shorter than normal?

I believe 80 cm's is the minimum height, alternatively you could get a counter top dishwasher, OR a new kitchen!

Depending on the thickness of the top can you replace it with a slimmer plywood cover to prevent possible moisture ingress?

If a fault occurs inside the warranty you could re-fit the top but how to explain why it's not under the worktop is another matter.
