Hi, I am replacing some windows at a flat. I applied for pre-planning advice and it didn't mention doing a noise impact assessment. Now I'm doing the application it is asking for one. The flat is on a main road in a town but it is just replacing the windows, no other structural works. Does anyone know if I do really need one? Any help would be v appreciated!

Impact assessment for you after the windows are fitted, or for others whilst the work is being carried out?

If they are asking for one it looks like it:!:
Ask them exactly how the noise assessment is to be carried out before you order the new windows.

Great, thanks everyone. It doesn't state whether its for the process or for after they're fitted, but presumably for the building stage. I'll reach out to them to clarify. Thanks again.

You could consider triple glazing if its on a main road.
yes, for sound insulation.
They might also want ventilation to be considered. Seem to remember ordinary trickle vents were not acceptable and special extract fans were required on a conversion to flats job near a busy town road I worked on several years ago, but I can't remember the precise details. Environmental Health were the people ' influencing' the planners on the requirements to minimise the impact of traffic noise inside the dwellings.
