I called an electrician around to fit an outside pir light

He wired the outside pir light direct to my swich which also happens to control two separate internal lights independently

He then took a short piece of brown wire and bridged the com from one terminal to the other

I am not familiar with this technique and just wanted to know whether this is perfectly fine

I suggest that, with power off at the consumer unit, you take and post a photo of the switch connections. This would give folks a chance of seeing if this is ok.

Indicate what is new.

Sounds fairly conventional if everything is working correctly. What were you expecting?

Does sound like it has a Live & neutral in the back box, did you get a Minor works certificate?

Sounds pretty standard. It does work I take it? Why do you doubt your electrician.?

A cowboy is a man who rounds up cattle on horseback. Did he arrive on a horse?

Winston: I'm guessing you can't imagine the possible mistake the electrician may have made or you wouldn't try to cancel seeing the photo. You can't risk someone's safety to satisfy your personal ignorant prejudices. Well apparently you can, but you shouldn't.

Do you never trust a tradesman? Are you the sort that watches every move when you have trades in your house? It is very annoying as I’m sure you will know if you are ever on the receiving end of it.

Doesn't look like we will get a photo anyway. But if we had, the electrician concerned wouldn't even know about it so I have no idea why you changed the subject to observing tradesmen on the job. If the neutral was already looped through the box then it's probably fine. Otherwise a very bad thing could have been done.
