I just replaced a damaged ceiling rose and, as I did I had a whole bunch of stuff pour out. It was only when I did a quick google to see what it might be that I discovered that it might be vermiculite.

This house is 130ish years old but I suspect that work was done in the 1960's so I'd like to confirm that this is vermiculite and see if it's possible to find out if it might be contaminated with asbestos. Is there anyway to test and any thoughts/comments?

thanks.

Good old fashioned vermiculite. Because you are unable to ascertain its source, some sources had asbestos in the ingredients whilst other sources didn't. I would assume given the age it has asbestos in it and take necessary precautions in disposal. Of course professional disposal will cost an arm and a leg. I would leave well alone if at all possible. Good luck
