Hi guys,

Going to start re-doing the bathroom, need some ideas for what to do with the staircase bulkhead. Photos attached.

Happy to have the toilet and sink in the existing positions.
Planning to get rid of the bath and just have a shower to free up space.

I was thinking either keeping the shower where it is and building a ‘step’ up into the shower to minimise the annoyance of the bulkhead. Re routing the bath waste pipe under the floor boards should be ok?

Or, having the shower at the other end (where the bath taps are) but not sure how to incorporate it with the window and what to do with the pipework. And then build a cupboard over the bulkhead.

Any ideas or suggestions or anyone with experience of a bathroom like this would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

The house I grew up in had one of these but slightly larger. We built a fake cupboard to cover it with a cabinet above that. This way you don't actually lose any space as the bulkhead was already there and you gain storage with the cabinet to store things.

We always flatten our bulkheads off at the bottom by way of allowing the skirting to run around then fix a window board or similar on top.
In your situation I'd have the shower next to the loo and use the bulkhead to incorporate some kind of Franken-vanity unit and hide the lot within the confines of the vanity cupboard. I can't see that high level window being much of an issue with the shower. Just make sure the shower waste does not clash with any joists.(y)
