Self-build Small Extension

it isn't just a question of being able to use Autocad ,it's also the knowledge of building construction.

Anyone actually seen that happen, mid-project? Surely their previous inspections need to stand rather than going back to square 1 with the council?

Thanks all it's great to get opinions and experiences from people. As you'll gather I've never gone through the BCO for something like this. The only time I have experienced their staff was when having a stove installation inspected post-completion. I just sent a form to the council and an inspector came out, wrote a few things down while checking and measuring and he was gone. Then I got my certificate.

The construction and design of the build is probably fairly simple as extensions go so my gut feeling is to go for full plans submission as I can't see anything changing once we've decided the design of the build. I did have a discussion with the other half last night as to whether we make it the full width of the house. We'd still only be coming out around 2 metres though as there is no intention to make this a large extension.

@Leofric - Understand now that there's more to the drawings. I just wanted to state what (fairly simple) level of skill I have with Autocad. As I say I wasn't sure what they wanted to see in them.

That would be my preference....otherwise you just create a bit of rather shady terrace.

Obviously there is cost to consider........

If you want to be cheeky, go onto the planning portal, search in your area for an application for an extension, then download building regulation drawings. Itll give you an example of the details and annotation. Obviously it wont be specific to your project, but a lot of what is written in b/regs drawings is standard spec that is cut n paste (architects will hate me saying.....).
