Hi,
I am about to turf over soil that is prone to weeds year round.
The company I am considering using for turf has suggested that I can turf straight on top of their weed control membrane.
Anyone tried this method ? Thoughts welcome.
(Turf Online are the company.. not a plug)

Thanks

How can it be that weeds are prevented shooting up through the membrane, but the roots of the grass can shoot down?

Appears unlikely.

I'm interested in this idea too. If it really works, does it mean I wouldn't need to turn all my hard soil over to remove all the thistles, stinging nettles and other weed roots, and just lay turf over the membrane? Or is it too good to be true?

Don’t do it. Grass roots need to establish themselves quite deep and can grow at least 4 inches or more. The membrane will stop them burrowing, which they will need in summer to get nutrients and moisture.

Membrane and fake turf won't stop nettles growing through or around so yes, you will need to turn your hard soil over to get rid of your thistles.
(Though don't be surprised if the odd one tries to poke it's head up after all your digging.. ;) )
