Evening,
I'm going to Screwfix Live on Saturday which is my first trade / tool show.
Can I expect good prices or deals?
After a few bits....

Gossamer, good evening.

I have in the past used my google App on my phone to check prices on other "well known" suppliers sites when contemplating a purchase at such events?

As a generality there are some "lost leaders" on show and also some End of Line "bargains"

It is only a bargain if you use the [whatever] regularly?

Ken.

None of these shows have any bargains.

What you need to do is stand in front of the rep and show him on your phone how you can get it cheaper online from Amazon or somewhere and ask him to beat the price by a worthwhile amount if he wants the sale.

I ordered a set of Wera Allen key from Amazon with next deliverer cheaper that Toolstation.

Amazon is killing the high street but good for the tradesman that can order parts to be delivered next day at home.(y)

All my local Toolstation and Screwfix seem to be overstaffed. Screwfix the worse, they come out from behind the counter, start asking what you want and rooting through your catalogue trying to find it for you and filling out the bit of paper etc. I'm one of those people who likes to have a browse, weigh up the various brands available etc so find this annoying, I appreciate that some people like this attention but from a business point of view surely it's not a good use of resources.
As for the ridiculous "upselling" - "here's your drill bit, would you like a drill to go with that?"....

That's a crushing bit of intel! Was hoping for a bargain jigsaw....

Screwfix is more expensive to start with on most things, so you'd need a good discount to even match elsewhere.

To be fair I often find they are pretty good, and IME even if I pay a little more, its worth if if there's an issue. Dealing with internet firms if there's a problem is a massive PITA.

A couple of years ago at a Grand Designs exhibition, I got a free boot shine from some bloke trying to sell some "Renapur" leather treatment at a special show price of £18. What he did not know was that while he was giving my boots a patina and me the patter, I was on Amazon checking out prices - it was £12!

It's a good product though and I recommend it. It arrived the day after via prime. LOL

FYI there were some bargains. Otherwise it was worthwhile as there as 10% off everything.
