Think of it like flicking a skipping rope, rope doesn't move backwards or forwards, but the wavefront does.

Is not the situation that individual electrons move very little (and, in the case of AC move 'backwards and forwards') but, for every electron that moves out (probably only temporarily) of one end of the cable, another simultaneously moves in to the other end?
If that were not the case, the cable would presumably become 'charged'

In this era of 'smart' homes I think the whole concept of space heating, whether by radiators, underfloor elements or hot air, is outmoded and inefficient. After all, it's the room occupants, not the rooms, which need to feel comfortable. So, chuck away the existing set-ups and replace with aimable infra-red heaters in the corners of the rooms. Control the heating direction so that it's aimed at the occupants and is only switched on when there are occupants.

It doesn’t work. A form I worked at years ago tried heating a school classroom with infrared heaters. It was soon ripped out as even though the people were warm everything you touch is cold and the air is cold. It was replaced with traditional heating within a couple of months.

Marginally OK where there is no better option, such as outdoors, but to be comfortable in a home the whole environment needs to be heated. Nowt much wrong with heating the home, proving it is well insulated.

My slightly overactive thyroid as served me well over the years.... I wouldn't however recommend taking thytoxin without a very good reason to, and of course prescribed.
