Repair veneer on flush chipboard fire door

Hello,

This heavy duty wooden door has taken some damage from an over door hook.

I'm hoping to tidy it up so it doesn't look as bad and was thinking some kind of tape secured across the length of the top of the door (top 2cm or so) might be the best solution with minimal effort required.

Any other suggestions welcome and/or which kind of tape might work best?

I think the door would be very expensive to repair, as its one of these solid fire proof doors.

I am assuming that the image posted is of the door in the closed position?

Suggest you consider fixing a thin section timber strip around the entire face of the door? Say 3 /5 mm. thick and up to 20 / 30 / 40. mm wide. width depends on where the lock handle plate is???

Going further you could consider fixing more beading to the face of the door to [say] give the "appearance" of a 4 or 6 panel [old fashioned] door?

A well known Architect told me once if you make a cods ear of something make a feature of it and you tend to get away with it ??

i believe that your "Tape" will simply draw attention to itself, but a "feature" may assist in blending things together.

If it is actually a fire door, as opposed to a fire-rated door used in a door casing which does not require compliance, then you technically aren't allowed to modify the door in the way the previous poster has suggested as that may well affect the fire integrity of the door. That said, there is no lipping left at the top of the door (beneath the veneer), so it isn't compliant in any case!

Other than filling with 2-pack (again, non-compliant), sanding/flatting back and painting I can't see many "proper" solutions other than complete replacement.

It's an internal bedroom door in a flat, but I'm not sure about the compliance side of things.

Just having another think about it. I might be best screwing on a rail hook such as the one in the photo. I think that would blend in well and serve a purpose as well.

If you ever make changes to fire doors you need to ensure that you adhere to fire door regulations.

Employ one of the specialist laminate repairers in your area.
