Overboard kitchen ceiling....Fire resistant board required?

A plasterer came to quote....he seemed like a good chap....but the only thing that I mentally thought to question was the fact that he said that over boarding with normal plasterboard was fine.....but if it was going to be rented out.....then fire resistant board was required.

I was not convinced this was true.

I did not contest him on that......but....is this correct? It is a while since I checked on here and I did look at a few old posts.

The best I got was bedrooms above garages required the garage roof to be fireboarded. resistant

All plasterboard is fire resistant. Different thicknesses provide different resistance. You don't need fire resistant plasterboard, and certainly not on the basis of the place being let or not. I hope the plasterer skims better than he thinks.

No information on existing ceiling

- but a garage ceiling below a bedroom needs to be two layers of 12.5mm plasterboard and skim, a ceiling over a kitchen can be one layer of 12.5mm plasterboard and skim.
Look on British Gypsum website for plasterboard details.
