I have been given a quote for CCTV but am unfamiliar with the terms & what it all means. I asked for precise information about what equipment was to be supplied (by which I meant manufacturer, etc, like Hik ...) but this quote doesn't seem to have it. I'm EOT (3 storeys), in a fairly quiet area & originally asked for 3 cameras (one for each side of the house), but am told that is probably OTT as the cameras that will be supplied are of top quality & have excellent coverage.
Do you think this quote has adequate information and is sufficiently future-proofed (insofar as anyone can future-proof anything, given how quickly Tech advances) ?? Would be grateful for your views ...

Thanks Sparkymarka, 4TB it will be. (Incidentally, can I use a Western Digital Elements HD, which attaches with a USB, or does the hard drive have to be enclosed in the NVR to record ?) Tx, Zena

The motorised zoom tends to end up just being pointless you will never end up using it, just get the right lense for the job.

What was the price? The hard drive goes in the NVR and is usually of a certain spec to be used for constant recording I.e. WD purple

Price was £800 + VAT. Lamchamps: Will see if they will fit WD purple. Thanks. Your advice is very reassuring. Zena

Bianco, what do you mean by the right lens for the job ? & is variable auto focus 2.88-12mm something I should be going for ? (As you can see, I have no idea what all this means in real terms & unfortunately the only way people (incl. me) learn tends to be through (bad) experience ! So, am v. grateful for your input. Zena

From my experience most motorised cameras get put up you then just tweak the zoom then they never get touched again. Well that's until the auto focus starts to focus on things it shouldn't do like water on the lense, spiders.

To me they are just a bit of a waste of money most the time its just better to select the correct fixed lense camera.

Only two I fit are WD purple and seagate Skyhawk ...as for motorised zoom most varifocal cameras come with this option now...most hik are non autofocus so the above comment doesn’t apply...
