Hi All,
I have a Capriz28 boiler, and NEST thermostat in the hallway. I had them installed in June and now we need our central heating on I wish I had taken notes when the fitter explained everything. Is there any simple instructions I can get online? Does the boiler have to been on constant so I can control via my NEST? I have set my timer on the boiler and the NEST will only work when the timing has started. I am getting frustrated during the allotted timing that the thermostat in the hall turns the boiler off after reaching a hallway temperature leaving the bedrooms cold. I know quiet a few questions but if I had some easy to read instructions I think I could solve all my issues.

Thanks

Timer on boiler needs to be set to constantly on and the nest will control everything

thanks Ian, so do I click all the timer pins to on? or is there a constant button? there are 3 positions, clock, one looks like a / and a o that I cannot switch too.

Nest does work with Energenie TRV heads, but to be frank, it will not help having a Energenie TRV head in the bedroom, but it may help having a Energenie TRV head in the hall as it will reduce the output from hall radiator as it gets near to Nest temperature so would extend boiler running time.

I looked up your boiler and it refers to ebus but not opentherm so not sure if Nest turns boiler off/on or up/down it could be either.

These are the instructions that come with nest there is also Beginner's guide to using the Nest thermostat you can select which or the three UK versions you have installed.

Nest is designed to learn, so it does not need to use a mark/space ratio as it gets near the target temperature it can do a long burn and stop at exactly the point when switching off/on control is used so the boilers own modulating control has chance to work. However to do that the lock shield valves and TRV heads need to be set correctly.

the thermostat in the hall turns the boiler off after reaching a hallway temperature leaving the bedrooms cold.
That is how all room thermostats work, including Nest. When the temperature in the room in which it is located reaches the set temperature, it turns the heating off.

It can be rectified in several ways, for example: by making upstairs a separate heating zone having its own thermostat which would allow it to keep the heating on in the bedrooms. Relocating the Nest thermostat to a more suitable position, or if there isn't one, and as I did to overcome the same problem, replacing the radiator in the hallway with a smaller one so that the hall was the last area to warm up.

If you do decide to relocate the room thermostat, here are some tips:

The room thermostat should be in an area that is not effected by other sources of heat such as an open fire, cooking equipment, or direct sunlight etc. It should not be somewhere drafty or too close to a window, especially if it's one that is opened in the winter.

Secondly it should be in a cool room, ideally the last to warm up. That way the other rooms will be warm enough, (not overheated if fitted with TRV’s) before the room thermostat switches the entire heating system off.

At least one radiator in the room with the thermostat installed should not have a TRV fitted. Otherwise the TRV may prevent the room thermostat from working properly.

The thermostat should be mounted about 1.5 metres from the floor, and not close to, or above a radiator.

Preferably it should not be on an outside wall, (in newer properties with well insulated walls, this is not quite so crucial.)

It should be in an area where air can circulate easily, not in a corner, or hidden behind curtains, or furniture.
