British gas changed a galvanised tank to a plastic one last Sept. New tennant decides to use immersion heater. Plastic tank fills with hot water and pops a very small leak. Rings me . Good job I get there in time . Isolate and drain.

Find out this has killed people in past and its not law to change the thermostat to a saftety one . But my lord should BG of not changed the thermostat to a safety one on change over to a plastic tank. Instead of gambling with peoples lives ?

That's very surprising. I would have thought all professional plumbers would be aware of the dangers by now. I bet British Gas have instructions to their workers in some kind of handbook.

Time for the customer to send a stiff letter of complaint to British Gas, and a claim for the cost of your call.

Bg do not care about their customers. particular Dyno Rod. I have just cancelled 8 policies with them . they changed the tank last year and moved the galvanised one and just dropped it in middle of my loft and cracked all the ceiling. They tried to get out of that . I had to pay for it. Its still with ombudsman after 13 months. Then the new tank has popped . Unbelievable !!!

Should be LAW to change them before someone else gets killed .

Then write to your MP.

Are you a plumber?

Why do you have 8 policies with Dynorod? Are you a private landlord?

Perhaps there should be a law that all rented properties must be safe and fit for human habitation.

yes landlord. I agree they should all be safe and fit for human habitation. I can send you to my properties online to see the quality of them if like. I make sure I have CP12 etc. This I did not know about and why should I ?

Dyno Rob didn't get that name for nothing. Any 'Plumber' worth their salt should be well aware of the risks of collapsing plastic cisterns in the even of an immersion failure, it has to raise the question of the calibre of people these companies are employing.

I would write to your MP, and may be worth mentioning the situation to the BBC Watchdog programme, it's about time all Immersions were required to be checked and upgraded when any other work takes place on the system. For the sake of £12 and a few minutes to fit it, there is no excuse.

This loft tank is a complete nightmare from start to finish. Not that is it even finished yet.

I had to pay for new insulation and someone to cut tank out what they dumped in middle of loft. I then had 5 weeks prob free before this . Nightmare

OP,
unless you have an IH that was installed over say 10years ago its unlikely that you dont have an IH "safety" stat with a thermal cut-out.
about 12years ago there was a well publicised accident with a IH stat and a plastic F&E tank.
IME since then i've never heard of anyone installing or even selling the older stats. but what do i know?

OP, if your a landlord then check all your IH's - take photos and post them on here if you have doubts.
also check that all expansion pipes from cylinder to F&E tanks are in Cu 22mm and finish above the tank water level.
the F&E should sit fully supported on a square of 3/4" ply.

best to have a landing neon switch for a loft light

TBH this is the only house that has not got a combi. It will get changed to combi in 2 years but only reason it never before is floors are new and gas was in 15mm and all floors would if needed to come up. It must of been a old thermostat. I guess Dyno rod get away with this again then as it's not law ?

Can't find anything about the thermostat. It does not need upgrading by law. But it should be. Especially when plastic tank goes in.

yes indeed. Landlords should be compelled by law to verify that the homes they rent out are safe and fit for human habitation.

Only on a solid fuel system is there a requirement to fit a galvanised header tank (because SF cannot be fully controlled).
Bobs 100% correct about thermal cut outs being a requirement on all Immersion heaters since the terrible accident of a baby being scalded to death by one over heating quite a few years ago now.
The new leaking storage tank is probably due to poor initial workmanship than boiling water from a faulty immersion.
