Ummmm I think this is wrong. Rsj and padstones

the lintel looks unsafe, and if it looks unsafe then, in my book, it is unsafe - there's a risk element.
both padstones for instance appear to be tilting in the same direction!
there are other and different, much safer methods for installing and seating that lintel.
i cant tell the load or span, of course, but experience says the RSJ looks overspecified?

if i came on a site and saw what you show then i'd immediately have it propped and the supporting arrangements changed.

It's repeated on here so many times but are you aware structural alterations require building regulations approval and structural engineer's input as necessary.

Thanks for all the input. Let me tackle this and get back to you. I know the steel length is 3.84m because I had to order it. If the builder hasn’t used a SE is it now too late. I thought it was the SE who registered with BC.

Technically it's your responsibility to get building control approval, but you'd hope a good builder would help out there

If I was to stop the work and do it myself where do I start. SE and and wait

Quality wise, it's a crap job by rough builders who should know better but obviously don't. But it wont be falling down, and will do.

Put the building notice in, get it inspected and the inspector may well just pass it without need for calculations. Then go from there.

Don't pay any money, or any more money to the builders untill the work has been approved.
