Hello All

Current plan for kitchen has closest edge of induction hob about 50mm away from the window. Window currently has wooden sill and we'd plan to put (probably combustible) blinds covering the window.

Some of the manufacturer installation instructions state its ok to have a tall cupboard next to the hob as long as it is more than 50mm from the hob. Do you think we'd be ok to keep this wooden sill also at least 50mm from the hob? I think I could make it more than 100mm if that helped ?

Just a bit worried as some chatter on the internet suggests it needs to be 300mm from the window?

Thanks very much in advance if anyone is kind enough to respond.

Hi. Thanks for that but unfortunately none of the MIs mention windows. I was thinking to treat the window sill as if it was a combustible cupboard for the purposes of the instructions?

Could you change the cill to tiles ? Have you thought about fat splashes on the blinds ? . Also don't kneel on the hob when cleaning the window - my M8's daughter did and cracked it:eek:

I understood that induction hobs don't get hot, so the risk of curtains blowing across the hob and catching light (which is the whole basis of the dimension gap between hob and window) won't apply.

Unlike all other hobs, an induction hob doesn't get hot - only the pan gets hot, so follow the manufacturers recommendation. If 50mm is OK for a cupboard, 50mm will be equally good for a window sill.

Well cooking gets hot, so I think it still applies.
I'm just checking the fire service statistics for fires caused by simmering carrots or boiling tagliolini, and I'll report back. It may solve the world's impeding energy crisis.
