Morning, have had a fused spur fitted from new upstairs ring main for bed side lights.

Found this wiring diagram on this forum and just wanna check this is best way of wiring up as was never quite finalised.....

cheers muchly

do you want each light to be turned on independently ?

and 2 switches either side of the bed?

look up 2 way switch in the FAQ at the top.

If I could see that picture, it could well be correct!

I think that is what he said.

Does it not open when you click on it? It is correct.

As for it being the best way to do it.
It does what is wanted, so - yes? :)

Apologies for any confusion, phone wasn't making it easy to post earlier....

Switch and light either side of the bed, both 2gang to operate each light independently from both sides. Hope that makes sense.....

Found the post with your diagram but can't remember there being a conclusion on the 'best way'

I can't remember what was said and can't find it.

Can you link to it?

I'm not sure what would make anything the best way. It usually depends on what you have and the amount of work you want to do.

Morning, just one more quick check.

1.5mm from spur to switches (switch to switch also) or is 1mm ok?

1mm from switches to lights or can I get away with using some 0.75mm fabric lighting cable (purely for aesthetics)

Cheers muchly again :)

1.0mm is more than enough from the FCU to the switches. 0.75mm OK for the lights if the FCU is fused at 3 amps.

Simply the wall light fitting that's being considered has coloured fabric flex.

Thought easier to wire straight to switch as supplied with enough to reach.

just to chuck in my tuppence worth. it might be easier to put the switches centrally just above the level of the headboard(its what i did for our two sidelights, main light and ensuite light) then there is no real need for two way switching as all switches can be reached by both bed occupants. the lights themselves can then be fitted with a 2A plug and fed from a socket at the bed side

ensuite light by the bed. That is forward thinking.

I myself have a ceiling pull switch to operate both bedside lights, and 2 way switching by the door

ensuite light switch by bed means that the light coming from the ensuite is sufficient to see by so no need to put bedside light on when getting up for a pee
