Hello. We had our boiler fixed today and the engineer said we're missing vital screws from the flue. See pic below. It's been like this for ten years and always passed its service, was in place before we moved in. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

If he was that concerned and as he is the last gas safe person there he should have condemned it if he thought it was a problem. I am assuming he hasn’t so I wouldn’t worry.

I had to sign a disclaimer before he fixed the boiler.

Doesn’t matter what you signed as a gas safe engineer he can’t walk out of there with a gas item at risk. So if he didn’t shut it down it can’t be a big problem.

Check with the manufacturer, it could be an advisory from him/her

Just bung some screws in there so that he doesn't complain on the next visit :).

The screws in the turret are manufacturer supplied generally, so can’t see why they pull you for that?

I could put extra screws in but told would pierce inner casing if too deep

That screw only prevents anyone from sliding off the flue when cleaning or decorating.
Some technicians like to scare customers.
If you really have to, you will see a notched point in the outer skin.
Drill a hole through the 2 metal part of the flue with a 3mm hss bit.
Then screw a 15mm self tapping in there.
Job done.
An insurance technician once tried to charge me £80 for this.
I told him to get out of the way and did it myself in 2 minutes with him there.
He didn't even fix the fault he was called for, all he wanted was to charge me for extra work and sign me up for boiler cover which i already had on my house insurance.
Scumbag!

I wouldn't touch it myself, don't worry. It feels sturdy and has been like this for 10 years, no leaks ever detected, just wondered how important these missing screws are.

Not important at all in my case.
It was such a tight fit and cemented through the wall with styrofoam in the cavity that nothing could've "accidentally " moved it.
