Washing Machine Standpipe - no trap

Appreciate that thanks.

The answer to my not very well articulated question is in the video and as Harry Bloomfield and you allude to - this HepvO valve transmits sufficient air

I’ve bought a valve now, will try and attach it to the top of my set up before calling in a plumber if I’m unsuccessful (ie I won’t be cutting pipes!). Wish me luck

I agree, a very basic easy job, diy it. The new valve needs to be installed as low a possible in the pipe, then the pipe you cut off, needs fitting to the top of the valve. Just make sure, you clean off the burrs on the tube from cutting it, so as to avoid damaging the seals on the new valve.

I would be concerned trying to use anything other than a saw runs the risk of splitting or shattering the pipe. ABS goes brittle with age, whilst fine as it is, it wont withstand attempting to cut it with a pipe shear.

thanks for tips - managed to saw with little hacksaw and get the HepvO installed - smell free
