Removing teleswitch

Playing devil's advocate, if the electrician were to remove the radio teleswitch surely the distribution network supplier would be none the wiser! ... It'll probably take 2 to 3 weeks for them to visit and remove it and likely a cost to myself whereas the electrician has offered to remove it! ... I'd be more inclined to just get the electrician to remove it!
Well, it's up to you (and, perhaps more so, the electrician).

To remove the teleswitch presumably would mean breaking the meter's seals, which attractions attention (particularly from meter readers) because it is precisely what people often do if they want to 'steal electricity'.

As I recently wrote, if you are changing from a dual-rate tariff to a single-rte tariff, your supplier (not DNO) will almost certainly want gto change the meter - in which case, as I said, it would seem reasonable/sensible for them to remove the teleswitch at the same time.

.. or (it's just occurred to me!) are you perhaps talking about an unused teleswitch which is not actually connected to anything?!

Kind Regards, John

What will the electrician do with this wire

It tells the meter what rate to charge.

Your electrician would be breaking the law, and you would be in breach of your supply agreement in allowing him to do it. Your electrician may not legally fit the isolator either, because that would mean either working live (really big no-no) or breaking the DNO seal and pulling the main fuse (big no-no).
You need to ask your supplier to switch you to a single rate tariff, and then ask for an isolator to be fitted. Once the isolator is fitted, your electrician can do what he likes downstream of the isolator.
There is another option, which is to ask for someone from the DNO to pull the full and then come back later to refit it - but it's simpler to just have an isolator fitted.

I have no idea whether it is working although it looks connected to the other devices within the enclosure.

There were no storage heaters in the property

There was an open vent hot water cylinder which has all been removed and replaced with a combi boiler

OK, but what sort of tariff are you on - do your electricity bills show separate figures for day and night ('peak' and 'off-peak') usage, or just a single overall figure?

I don't recollect seeing two different figures, I'll double check and report back tomorrow, thanks

Do you require closeups of anything in particular?. ... I uploaded a pic of the meter ... Link below
Apologies, I forgot that!

That appears to be a dual-tariff meter, with the teleswitch connected to it. It therefore sounds pretty likely that you are on a dual tariff (the meter says E7) - so look forward to hearing what your bills look like.

Ah ok, no worries, will let you know as soon as, many thanks :)

That particular meter also has a built in isolator, there are two covers, one for the tails from the cutout which is usually sealed, then a second cover over the consumers tails, which has an isolator under it too!

I had a job where the dno had removed a teleswitch, during a service move, the meter operator later came to fit a new meter and the missing teleswitch did cause some issues, a lot of time wasting and rearranged appointments. They did take some convincing that the DNO removed it, and thought that someone had been tampering. My advice to you would be to get the meter operator to remove it and update their records of what equipment they have installed
