Hi

Am in the middle of prepping a room for decorating. In the bay window there is a ceiling. The ceiling has, I think, been painted with a superlatex paint. In has a pimply textured surface which I don't like so I don't intend to paint over it. Patches of this paint has been coming off - I have literally been peeling it off in small strips. It stretches like rubber and pulls away leaving clean looking plaster. A fair amount has come off without much effort - I've been using a scraper but now there aren't any loose bits to get the scrapper under.

How can I finish getting this paint off?

I have thought of using an electric sander to smooth the bumps out if I can't remove the rest of the paint - does this sound like an option?

Many thanks
Holly

Try a steamer ? You'd still need to scrape but it may help

Yes, have tried that but its painfully slow. I cant work out why so much of the paint has literally been peeling off so easily, yet the rest is stuck.

Why do you think it is a super latex paint?

If is elastic, it sounds more like a vinyl silk paint.

Super latex paints are normally very matt and very easy to sand. Soaking them is often sufficient to enable them to be scraped off with relative ease.
