Just took the see through bottom of the trap off... small amount of water in it, emptied it out refitted it and turned the boiler back on, ten mins later still no water in the removable bit of the trap!

water still dripping out heat exchanger with the trap removed too which shouldnt be possible (boiler off of course)

CO detector is now right next to the boiler while I tried doing this

turned it all off again!

is this engineer incompetent? I’m starting to think so sadly...

Update... Ian... You're spot on as per original diagnosis...

With no water in the trap I blew air into the flexy condensate pipe and up into the heat exchanger... Heard a massive gurgle... and a rush of water probably a litre came out full of all kinds of crap into a bowl I had waiting!

Left it at that now, won't turn it back on, how should I play this? If it wasn't for the fact this is via home emergency insurance and I was paying, I would be calling them con men... Do I name and shame as it's a big company based in Preston

I wouldnt say they were con men, just these companies tend to use very inexperienced engineers, sadly the industry is flooded with these guys who get very little training and think they know everything, experienced engineers get snapped up and these companies can only employ these folk, not a big deal to clear the blocked condensate just make sure that when he comes back with the burner that you dont need, that the condensate is flushed through properly

Just to close this out and add more detail. They sent an experienced engineer out to put it back together once I explained what had gone on, he said was it engineer X who came... Turns out he's only just started working there..

Boiler has been working spot on for the last week. Just a shame they've thrown about £200-300 of parts and whatever labour on top for something that would have taken 20 mins had it been diagnosed properley...

No cost to me of course as it's via Axa home cover...

Hi
Just been Googling for Potterton Powermax HE faults and found this site and thread. What was the final “fault” on this thread (not familiar with gas boiler workings btw).
Similar to this thread we have been in the house for 3 years but the boiler is approx 15 years old. We have had it serviced under a Corgi home insurance scheme and it has been working fine however last week we had the room thermostat changed for o e of those Bluetooth ones so we could control it from whichever room we are in.
Since then we have had three occasions of the A01 lockout fault which seems odd but is it just coincidence.
Any ideas?
