Lincat griddle 3kw

Hi all ive aqquired a 3kw commercial 600mm Lincat griddle. Unfortunately we cleaned it up before fully testing it.
It runs of a 13amp plug.
At first i had it plugged into my shed circuit which is on a 16 amp radial fed from my garage. It would trip the Rcbo after about 2 minutes, this would not reset without unplugging the griddle.
We then moved it to the garage and put it on the 20amp rcbo ring. After about 3 minutes it tripped that Rcbo.
What i did notice when i was cleaning the unit was the earth spade was disconnected on the power connector inside the unit, i duly reconnected it, however as the Rcbo trips on leakage to earth would having it disconnected allow it to work?.
The garage CU runs 100 amp fed from the incoming house supply. Was put in to run my 200 Amp inverter Tig welder.
Gonna get my sparks to do a insulation test on the element and probably change it.

It might work, but when the element fails, the whole casing of the appliance would become live and sit there waiting to kill someone who was unfortunate enough to touch it.

It’s possible that after a hundred cycles of switch on and trip, the element will have dried out. Or maybe there is a more fundamental problem.
But, whatever the issue is, for your own safety, as Flameport said, reconnect that earth connection. It’s there for a reason.

Well that was my first reaction that i reconnected it. However it dawns on me that someone before me disconnected it to get round nuisance tripping.

Yes very possibly.
What that really means is the plate is likely to be live, that's the most likely reason it trips...

After 2 or 3 minutes?
