Hi folks,

I've been removing the floor to ceiling tiling in a small utility area in my house. Now i'm left with rough walls that I want to get ready for painting. Is the best option to dot and dab over the walls as they stand? Or do I need to take it back to brick? Of is there a better way? Thanks

your photo wont open up for me - perhaps others could advise you on the best method of posting pics on here?

Can't you sand them down to make them smooth enough to be painted?

Sand down the tiles?!?! Or sand down the adhesive? I assume you mean the later? Surely that'd take an age, make a huge mess and cost about £1k in sandpaper pads.... I can't believe any builder would spend time and effort doing that. Sorry if i've misunderstood your suggestion.

Hopefully this image will work if people can't see the other one...

Chisel the walls as flat as you reasonably can, apply ThistleBond, and get someone to skim the wall. Job done!

If the adhesive is well stuck on, knock off any that sticks up too high, and then you should be able to dot and dab straight over.

I meant sand the walls, surely not the tiles.
Now that i've seen the picture, no, you can't sand them.
Dot and dab as suggested by mikeey84

Cheers everyone. Just ordered an SDS with chisel action from Screwfix and will make short work of flattening the walls out then dot and dab as suggested.

The plaster will come off with the adhesive.
Same time as dot and dab.
But your solution and a skim is better in the long run.
