Kitchen Worktop and splashback

Fitting an L shaped kitchen 3m x 3.3m.
Oak door and drawers, looked at Duropal worktops, not sure whether to go for Oak or something opposite in colour as the worktop is clearly laminate and not oak?
Not much light in the room so light colour.
Advice on this please.

Also what is the opinion of splash backs or upstands, are they worth it?
Is the splashback that much better than an upstand and do you fit all the way round or just above the sink and electric hob?

Improve lighting you can have whatever worktop you like, upstands or splashbacks are a personal choice .Do you struggle with making decisions ?

Personally, with a small kitchen I think I'd have gone for a lighter kitchen with a fairly neutral worktop. That said I dont think oak doors with an oak top would look good at all. If you want to brighten the kitchen you'll need to go for a light-coloured top, ideally not a wood- like laminates

As to splashback vs. upstands, upstands always give you a "ledge" at the top which will gather dust and muck. Also, if you are a messy cook (like me - I cook quote a lot of Italian and Spanish food which uses tomatoes as well as curries) then a splashback is far easier to keep clean than an upstand and painted plaster work. I've run mine all round the kitchen with a stainless steel splashback behind the hob
