Good evening,

A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread regarding a strange noise we were hearing under our kitchen unit. Since then, our landlord has removed the microwave oven and panel underneath and we can now pinpoint the noise.

It looks like the plumbing may be the culprit (they’ve checked for pests and told us there are none) but I’ve never experienced noise like it and to me it doesn’t sound like water.

This is the video we have taken - https://www.dropbox.com/s/f5ch96ub5pgak0o/IMG_5530.MOV?dl=0&m=

What on earth could be going on? Our landlord keep playing dumb and are running out of ideas.

Ooooh. How spooky and irritating.

Can you tell if it is coming from one of the pipes by touching and feeling the noise or is it somewhere else?

Sounds like rat or mouse chewing something to me.
This is what it sounds like to me but the landlord is adamant they’ve had pest control out and the bait traps haven’t been touched. I’ve never seen any bait traps though!

If you make a loud noise/slap your hand on the floorboards, does the noise stop? I doubt very much if a mouse would continue chewing away under those circumstances.

The noise, to me, sounds like it’s coming from towards the back rather than the actual pipe which is more likely to be a rat in the wall but I keep getting told it’s not!

Nope, I have even banged really loudly on the panel repeatedly when it’s been going on and the noise continued.

I can not only see where the noise is coming from I can smell it too.

My partner seems to think it’s because the buildings plumbing system is connected(?) (it’s a block of new build flats) and even though it doesn’t necessarily happen when we use the sink/water, it could be when our neighbour(s) use theirs? How on earth do you fix that if so!!

I'm not deeply into forensic examination of recorded video, but even a fool can tell that the source of your mysterious noise is very close to the cameras microphone. So close that they could actually be holding the camera with one hand & creating the noise with the other.

What we need here, for DIYNOT CSI to be fully effective, is a video of the video being made.
