Replacing spotlight above shower to IP rated one.

Got a new bath and shower fitted (bath was in there previously) and the bathroom has halogen spotlights in it.
I know I will need to replace at least one of them (one above the shower). Is it as easy as just swapping over the complete unit or will there be transformers involved too.
The ceilimg is over 2.5m high if that makes any difference.

You can replace the whole unit. If it is a mains unit get a mains unit. If it is a 12 v unit get a 12v one.

All downlights are IP rated...

It depends what was installed previously as to the work that will need to be done. I'd advise you drop down a few of the downlights to see the state of the installation and whether they are 230V fittings or 12V fittings.

@burnie35 If the existing halogen lights are 12v then, if you replace them with 12v LED lights, you may well find that the "transformer" will not be compatible and you'd need to change that for a driver that is compatible with the LED lights.
In this situation, it is much easier to do away with whatever is converting your mains to 12V and install 230v LED downlights.

Took out one of the units and it's 230v gu10 on it, swapped it with a ip44 halogen from another bathroom (which had a mix of halogen and LED and it still worked. I assume they will be mains voltage then.
Another query I have is that in a previous house it was just a normal light in the bathroom and never had a problem, what are possible implications of a non sealed unit in the bathroom.

A non-sealed unit will draw condensation into the loft, where it will settle on joists etc. Over time the wood will rot and the roof will collapse.

I thought a "normal light" meant an old fashioned light - pendant or surface mount - which didn't create a problem which needed a cure - huge holes in the ceiling.

Soz for being a pest but can I keep the lights and the gubbing behind and just replace the front face bezel (I think it's called).

There are not many where you can just buy the bezel.
Easier to buy a whole fitting and put the old bulb in it. They cheap enough.
