Hi all, just started work prepping my back bedroom for redecoration and moved a tall box that was in front of the rad and was confronted with this (see image) has anyone else had this issue with a designer rad?

The rad is approx 6 years old.

The surface finish has debonded from the radiator body. In the worst case it may be that the radiator tubes themselves have corroded.
Turn the radiator valves off at both ends and gently scrape the worst areas - if there is any water present then it's likely to be coming from inside the radiator.
It's possible that poor paint has not been able to withstand the heat - if air flow around the rad was restricted.

Either way it's a poor quality product.

Edit - might be worth checking that you have sufficient inhibitor in your system.

darkan9el, good evening.

Odd how the "damage" is concentrated being severe on two tubes but less on the third? also concentration at the base of the tubes.

Can you recall if the "tall box" was touching the Rad?

But must agree with Newboy above.

Ken.

Thanks for the replies, I have to take the rad off to strip the wallpaper behind it but I'll do a bit of careful paint removal, hopefully it is poor prep work prior to powder coating.
