How much overhang for dormer joists

Hi.

Just wondering what the length of overhang should be for a nice finish.

I've left 7 inches ( 17.5cm)

Is that too much or about right?

Aiming for something like in pic.

Any length you like within reason.

Enough to fit a grill for the extractor fan in the toilet.
That way you won't need to drill the walls and will have a neat finish.
