I lifted a flagstone to re seat it and found some cut off ironwork beneath. the curve of these 2 T-sections seems to be concentric with a vaulted cellar ceiling below. The building was constructed in the mid 17th century. the iron seems to have been gas cut with oxy / acetylene torch, judging by the striations. Maybe as a bodge to lay a very thick (4 inch thick) flagstone.
My question is what are the iron straps there for ? would they have been part of the original construction, or for a later repair ?
