My mate has just bought a VW Golf r, I think it’s 2012, took me for a spin last night, fook it’s quick. 2 litre petrol turbo, he reckons it puts out 300hp.

MK6, Shame really. They lost their way with the MK6, like they did with the MK3.
They only had them out for a couple of years, it was the first R that went from the previous 3.2litre V cross to a 2litre turbo.

Yes that’s the one, he said something about that, that model was only produced for about two years and he particularly wanted one of them.

So it’s a MK6? Are they sort after?

Personally would rather have a mk7 over a mk6. But then I would also have an R32 over a mk6 R

Probably the best all round car I've driven is a Nissan GTR 35, the gearbox/ handling/ traction and power all work very well together.

I fancied buying one a while back but ended up with a caravan and tow car instead..

A guy in my village has one of those, claims to have 900bhp (don't really know where he gets that from but he's built like a bear so 900 bhp it is)
You're right, its a grossly underestimated supercar.
(We now await a visit from Extinction Rebellion )
John :)

I've read a few 1000hp + builds, I think the stock engine can take 750ish reliably.

Severn Valley Motorsports seem to be the go to for big builds. For me a standard one would be fine, some have hit over 500hp out of the box.

I've not had a road car for almost 4 years because I bought the van :(

Don't really like new cars cos it's harder to fix on the drive with all their coded electrical pish. Have been looking at newish quick estates recently for rapid dog transport but not found anything I really like.

Had loads of old stuff and done some engine conversions myself.

Had 11 E30's and this was my favourite, grandad spec touring with an M30B35 out of an 535i in it. W

Not sure what I'm going for next but was thinking of a Mk1 MX5 with a 3.0 jag V6 in it. Also fancy a Lotus esprit with the same engine so we'll see.

I've still got my Mk2 Golf GTI 16v on the drive, used a front mount BBM kit to add a G60 Supercharger and a Megasquirt ECU to convert over to EFI.

Was one of 7 16vG60's in the UK when I'd finished it iirc.

Needs a LOT of work to the chassis but I just can't bear to part with it, owned it 20 years now.

Gearbox is in bits in the shed at the moment!.

I know the feeling, I've had the track car for probably 10 years now and even though I'll never see it on the road again I'll be gutted when it goes. Should never have tracked it and just repaired the arches but they were so cheap and plentiful back then. Hindsight.
