replace existing ball valve

Hi ...….I am replacing the ball valve in my expansion tank. The existing one is a part one , so I have purchased the same. Luckily I made some enquires before I fitted the new one and have been told I should be using a part two. The old valve was fitted round about 1975. Do I really have to use a part two, I have had no problem with the old one when it started leaking the water ran out of the overflow before it reached the inlet flow hole.

I have checked again and the overflow is lower than the feed pipe so if there is a problem the water will not cross contaminate

As far as I know they can still be fitted, but require a double check valve, it’s about backflow prevention, and water regs state that there must be an air gap or other adequate means of backflow prevention. Yes the overflow is lower which is a requirement anyway - it’s all ifs and buts.
