Wet rafters and condensation

does anybody think it is worthwhile putting a vapour barrier under insulation to reduce moisture getting up?

Does it matter that other houses in our street have more frost than us on their roofs? Does this mean we're losing a lot of heat?

Yes.

Improve your loft insulation.

I recommend the mineral wool rolls treated with Ecose, which do nor shed irritant dust and fibres. They are brown, not yellow. You may find special offers.

Yes, it comes on when you turn the light on. Would it be ok to leave the light and fan on all the time?
If you don't mind the electricity bill and possibly burning out the fan motor :D

A typical 10W domestic bathroom fan will run for 100 hours on 15p worth of electricity.

That over four days, night and day, 24 hours a day.

25 pence for a continuous week.

Some good ones are only 8W.

20 pence for a week.

Fan motors, by amazing chance, have a cooling airflow all the time they are running. I'd be interested to see one that has "burned out" though I have no great hopes in that direction.

OK, let's all leave our bathroom and ensuite lights and extract fans on permanently then.

if there is some reason why it might be necessary, feel free. For example if you are a person who has built up damp in the fabric of your bathroom, or if your family has numerous steamy showers a day and it needs drying out. What will you gain from leaving an LED lamp on?

You expressed a concern about the electricity bill. If you're that hard up, I will post you 20p to help with your first week.

How does it compare with boiling your kettle, full, twice a day? Or running your tumbledrier for three hours a week?

I don't have a tumbledrier ;). Have I been brainwashed into thinking it is a good idea to switch off all electrical things if possible to save money etc ,think green .

 the light operates the fan :!:
Where is this going ,perhaps I should leave the sarcasm to others on here who are much better at it than me :?::!:
ps isn't everybody concerned about their electricity bill :?: but post me as much money as you like.(y)

It's the drying that's a problem for me. I don't have a tumble dryer hence the drying in the house over the winter. I guess the extractor fan being left on is the only option for us.

Cost of using a fan in bathroom is negligible compared with the cost of damage by condensation, mould etc .
